Innovation labs for secondary schools in Nepal
To get involved, contact info@ewb.is
This project supports the establishment of innovation laboratories (iLabs) in secondary schools in Nepal. The focus is on practical, hands-on learning that introduces students to design thinking, problem-solving and basic entrepreneurship within the school environment.
The programme is set up as an umbrella project. Funding supports individual schools on a rolling basis. Each school is added as funding is secured, with implementation and progress shared as the programme expands.
At each school, the programme typically includes:
– Set-up of a basic makerspace or innovation lab within the school
– Training for teachers in design thinking and facilitation
– A structured student programme for Grades 8 and 9 focused on problem identification, prototyping and testing
– An Innovation Accelerator Programme guiding students from idea to simple, functional solutions
– A public exhibition (iJatra) where students present and, where appropriate, sell their work
The exact scope is adapted to each school, based on local context, capacity and available resources.
Funding target per school (per year):
– USD 8,500 for schools within Kathmandu Valley
– USD 9,500 for schools outside Kathmandu Valley

iLab is currently active in 8 secondary schools across 7 districts in Nepal, engaging approximately 450 students and over 25 teachers. The programme is ongoing and designed to scale to additional schools over time.
Thematic area: Education and entrepreneurship
Start date: 2023
Duration per school: Ongoing, with annual implementation cycles
Status: Active
Additional schools and partners will be listed here as funding is secured and new iLabs are established.
